The northern elevation opens almost entirely through expansive glazing across three levels, flooding the interiors with natural light while framing uninterrupted views across the Mooikloof valley. In contrast, the western arrival sequence presents a restrained composition of stacked rusted steel volumes that gradually unfolds into a dramatic transparent architectural canyon, revealing the landscape beyond. This carefully choreographed arrival transforms entering the residence into an architectural experience, culminating in double-volume living spaces, bridges, reflecting water features and curated artworks that blur the distinction between architecture, landscape and gallery.

Materiality defines the home's enduring character. Natural stone, weathered steel, exposed structural elements, ribbed brass detailing, polished screed floors and expansive glass combine to create an architecture that feels timeless yet deeply connected to its surroundings. Slate excavated from the site was repurposed within gabion retaining walls and crushed into the surrounding landscape, allowing the architecture to emerge organically from the terrain itself. At the heart of the residence, an expansive lanai overlooking landscaped terraces, a swimming pool, jacuzzi and reflecting ponds forms the social centre of the home—perfectly adapted to the Highveld climate while creating a seamless dialogue between interior living and the panoramic landscape beyond.
